Finally, I’ve compiled my top recommendations of perennials for busy urban gardeners desiring to kick start their small edible patch! This list contains edible plants that are not only extremely to take care of, they are also perennials, which means you do not have to worry about buying seeds over and over again for the next harvest. Since space is a commodity in the city, I only included small-sized perennials that could be fitted even within your balcony.

1.Kangkung

Known also as water spinach, this Asian native is considered a weed in Western countries because of its tenacious growing ability. It is commonly used as the main ingredient in stir fry dishes. A water-loving plant, it thrives well in muddy, waterlogged areas. By cutting the plant above its first leaf node, it will continue to grow and recover to be harvested in several weeks.

2. Brazilian spinach

Brazilian spinach has a crunchy texture and is best when eaten as a frittata or as a side dish on top of a bowl of noodles. After cutting off their stems, simply remove their leaves except for one or two young leaves on the top. The stems can now be replanted and you have just expanded your Brazilian spinach patch!

3. Mint
